About the Brazilian Center for Innovation and Sustainability

We are a non-governmental, non-profit entity, recognized as a Civil Social Organization of Public Interest.

Since 1999, the Brazilian Center for Innovation and Sustainability has been playing a role
fundamental in the defense, preservation and conservation of the environment and promotion of
sustainable development involving studies and research, development of technologies
alternatives, production and dissemination of information and holding courses, seminars,
congresses, conferences, lectures and workshops, among others, about the countless benefits of
bamboo for the Brazilian economy and society.

Through multifaceted action, which includes legislative/parliamentary and technical advice,
engagement with class entities, with emphasis on CREA (Regional Council of
Engineering and Agronomy) and the CAU (Council of Architecture and Urbanism), collaboration with
universities, state departments and international dialogues. We have been working hard
to boost the economic and sustainable use of bamboo, an abundant natural resource in
our country, present in all biomes.

  • Legislative and Technical Advice:

One of CEBIS' main areas of activity is to provide legislative/parliamentary advice
and technique for promoting bamboo in Brazil. This involves supporting and monitoring
bills related to bamboo and the search for regulations that encourage its use
in various applications.

  • Engagement with class entities

The partnership with CREA is essential to ensure that agronomy professionals,
engineering and architecture are well-informed about the possibilities offered by the
bamboo. We hold events that include talks about bamboo. CREA can monitor
from cultivation to construction, involving agronomy, forestry engineering, civil engineering to
ensure the efficient use of natural resources and application in appropriate and safe projects.
We also work to update technical standards related to bamboo, ensuring
its inclusion in professional practices.
The partnership with CAU is fundamental. Architects are important in leveraging
low carbon impact construction, with emphasis on bamboo. Biophilic architecture is
a global trend and seeks harmony between buildings and nature. Bamboo, material
sustainable and resistant, exemplifies this union, promoting ecological design and efficiency
structural simultaneously. Bamboo is renewable, grows quickly and absorbs CO2
efficiently. Architects using it for sustainable construction are reducing
emissions and promoting solutions with a low carbon impact on the environment.

  • Collaboration with Universities:

Universities play a crucial role in research and development of new
technologies and applications for bamboo. CEBIS collaborates with higher education institutions
throughout Brazil to promote academic studies on bamboo, explaining the research of
new cultivation, processing and application techniques. This collaboration results in innovations
that promote the sustainable use of bamboo in different sectors.

  • Relations with Ministries and  State Secretariats

We work in close collaboration with state departments across the board,
involving the secretaries of agriculture, environment, economic development, tourism,
science and technology, among others to promote public policies that encourage the use of
bamboo, whether as biomass – renewable energy, low carbon construction projects
and industrial development, such as cellulose, among others. This includes promoting incentives
taxes, favorable regulations and the inclusion of bamboo in construction programs
public. We also participate in events and forums to disseminate knowledge about
advantages of bamboo among decision makers.

  • International Dialogues

With the aim of exchanging knowledge and technological transfer on cultivation and
using bamboo as a sustainable economic sector, CEBIS has a network of partners
international companies present in Asia, South America, North America, Oceania, Africa and Europe.
Promotion of Bamboo Benefits:
In addition to all these actions, CEBIS's main objective is to promote the benefits of
bamboo in Brazil. This includes public awareness of the environmental advantages,
economic and social aspects of bamboo, as well as demonstrating its various applications
practices, from recovery of degraded areas, biomass, housing construction
sustainable products, among others, with the great advantage that bamboo is also a food, and serves
for nutritional improvement and food security.

In summary, CEBIS acts in a comprehensive and strategic way to boost the use of bamboo
in Brazil. Through advice, engagement, collaboration and promotion, we are
committed to maximizing the potential of this renewable resource, contributing to a future
more sustainable and prosperous for the country.
